Our next formal recruitment is on Sunday, January 21, 2018 to train youngsters how to ride, but anyone can join at any time during the year. Join us at St. Helen School gym after all masses. We participate in about 25 parades and performances during the year, mostly locally. Our first major trip outside of Ohio since the relaunch of the team is the Florida Citrus Parade on December 30, 2017.
Requirements to Ride
No prior skills required, we will teach the basics of balance and tips to success. We ask that you just have a willingness to learn and listen. All ages are welcome!
Weekly practices begin on weekends during the winter as gym time is available. When the weather breaks, we go outside twice a week to practice, usually at Punderson State Park in Newbury, Ohio, continuing throughout the summer and fall months.
As many hours as a family can give toward the improvement of skills, new riders develop skills faster with continual practice with the team and coaches. We recognize there are a lot of activities available to families and can work with student, work, and family schedules.
Although there is no registration fee, the team member is expected to purchase a team t-shirt, sweatshirt, and helmet, approximate total is $40. A limited number of loaner unicycles are available for new riders.
Team members are representing St. Helen Church and are expected to conduct themselves in a way that honors and glorifies God and demonstrates respect for other members of the team, their families and the public.
A team member does not have to be a member of the church nor Catholic. All are welcome.
Adult Training Required
Coaching or Parent leaders require VIRTUS training with FBI/BCII check for any adults working with children for four or more hours a month.
